Urban Design

HOW Planning believes that Urban Design is one of the key ingredients to making places that are successful both socially and economically, good to live in and attractive to visit. Urban design is essential in creating a community, corporate or commercial identity.

Our interdisciplinary methodology to design ensures we can effectively plan for all scales of development, whether creating or re-creating an environment and we believe that the demand for energy defines modern cities, towns and villages more than any other factor.

Under legislation which came into effect in 2006, a Design and Access Statement must now accompany the majority of planning applications. HOW’s urban design experience allows a comprehensive approach working alongside other Consultants to develop a coherent document, clearly identifying the key elements of the overall design ethos.

We have produced a number of Design and Access Statements for a range of clients, from landowners to occupiers, which vary in content depending on the nature and complexity of the proposed development.
