Planning Consent Granted for Phase 1 of £70M Altair Scheme
Working on behalf of Nikal, HOW Planning has secured detailed planning permission for Phase One of Altair, Altrincham’s dynamic new £70 million residential and leisure quarter in the town centre.
The decision means that construction on the 4.5 acre mixed-use scheme will start this Summer, with completion of the first phase anticipated in December 2017.
Main contractor, Eric Wright Construction, will commence site clearance works to make way for the construction of an iconic contemporary style building that will house 59 high quality apartments plus ground floor retail leisure units.
The apartments will be delivered by Hillcrest Homes, Nikal’s award winning luxury homebuilding company, and will comprise 36 one bedroom and 23 two bedroom apartments designed by acclaimed Manchester architects, Stephenson Studio.
Each of the apartments will offer statement interiors and an exemplary standard of specification with German designer kitchens, integrated ‘A’ grade appliances and bathrooms and ensuites by Villeroy & Boch. Residents can enjoy private balconies as well as access to a stylish communal roof terrace with far reaching views.
Apartments will be released for off plan sales in the Summer with interested parties able to register their interest at http://www.altair-altrincham.co.uk/
Nikal’s Phase One plans for Altair also include a grand new entrance for Altrincham Ice Rink and a new landscaped pedestrianised area with space for outside seating and pavement cafés.
Later this year, Nikal will submit plans for further phases of construction providing more high quality homes alongside contemporary retail spaces suitable for new restaurants, cafés, bars, shops and Grade A office accommodation, creating a vibrant new destination for living, leisure, pleasure and business in the heart of Altrincham town centre.
Altair will be linked directly to the tram, train and bus Transport Interchange via a new public bridge, making it easily accessible to those travelling to or from the Greater Manchester and Trafford areas.
Says Nikal Managing Director, Nick Payne; “This is really wonderful news! Altair is such an exciting new addition to our thriving modern market town; a premier town centre living quarter and a real community with high quality but affordable homes where values will appreciate. The offering rivals the most fashionable new areas of Manchester, such as Spinningfields and the Northern Quarter. We’re providing stylish and sophisticated apartment living with a fantastic range of desirable amenities and attractions right on the doorstep, plus an excellent choice of transport links that places the whole of the North West within easy reach.
“Even better, we’re also offering the strong community spirit and diverse delights of Altrincham town centre - now firmly established as a hub for original and innovative independent enterprise and one of the very best destinations for ‘foodies’ in the whole of Greater Manchester!
“With all this, it’s no surprise that the level of interest from those looking to move to Altair is strong with a large number of people already registering for more information. What’s fantastic is that the appeal is so wide and includes first time buyers, professional couples and senior executives as well as both seasoned and first time investors looking for a sound asset. We’d advise anyone interested to register and be prepared to act quickly when they are released for sale,” he adds.
Outline planning for Altair was granted in 2014 with Nikal working in partnership with Trafford Council.
Acting for Nikal to help achieve a positive planning outcome was Manchester based consultants ‘HOW’ Planning.
Says Jon Power, Senior Planner at HOW Planning: “We have worked closely with Nikal to ensure that Altair Phase One delivers an iconic high quality building that reflects its position at a key gateway into both Altrincham and the wider Altair development. This positive decision will act as a catalyst to kick-start the regeneration of Altair and realise significant social and economic benefits at the heart of the town.”
