New Homes Planned for Salford Quays
Acting on behalf of developers Glenbrook SQ Ltd, HOW Planning has submitted a full planning application to Salford City Council for a striking new residential scheme in the MediaCityUK area of Salford Quays.
The 0.25ha Erie Basin site is the last remaining plot to be developed along Quays Road, which runs alongside the Metrolink line into the heart of MediaCityUK. The proposed scheme comprises two, 16 storey towers housing 270 PRS apartments.
Says Emma Williams, Planner at HOW Planning: “The Salford Quays area has been through a period of huge transformation over the past 15 – 20 years, something which has been shaped and encouraged by the city council. The Erie Basin site is one of the remaining parcels of land in the MediaCityUK area and represents a major opportunity for further progress, attracting new residents and increased spending in the area.”
Designed by architects Sheppard Robson, the building design has been derived through a concept of two individual objects that rest on top of a podium with the building’s entrance designed to be a key feature rather than the design purely addressing the basin elevation.
The proposed development also includes a residents’ gym, internal and external communal spaces as well as a new public walkway along the river. Another key feature will be a dropped mezzanine terrace which will lead onto a large external terrace space overlooking the basin.
The terrace will be a mixture of paving and decking with use of artificial grass and small planters/shrubs to soften the landscape with a seating area where residents will be able to enjoy views of the water and over to the Lowry Theatre across the basin.
