easyHotel Arrives in Leeds
HOW Planning has secured detailed planning permission for a 94 bed easyHotel on Lands Lane in Leeds City centre.
The four-storey building, which lies adjacent to Angel Inn Yard is currently vacant and plans will transform the retail unit into a ‘super budget’ hotel, further enhancing easyHotel’s portfolio of low cost, good quality hotels in city centre locations around the world.
Comments Phil Grant, Principal Planner at HOW Planning: “Leeds is one of the UK’s fastest growing cities and the new easyHotel will help inject even more new activity and add to the vibrancy of the local area.
“The new development has clear synergies with the wide mix of other land uses found in this part of the city and it is anticipated that there will be a rise in the number of new visitors to the area, which will undoubtedly increase expenditure in local economy; in particular, in the cafés, bars, restaurants and shops located close to the site.”
The building sits within the Leeds City Centre Conservation Area and, whilst it is not listed, it is considered to have architectural and historical interest relating to its original use as the Scala Cinema. As such, it is has been identified by Leeds City Council as a ‘non-designated heritage asset’ and the design for the new hotel aims to retain the historic character of the building whilst providing everything required for its new use.
Plans include the full change of use for 14-22 Lands Lane to create a new hotel including 94 ensuite bedrooms, staff facilities, ground floor entrance lobby and reception, together with associated external works.
