Waitrose Broughton Retail Centre

HOW Planning has secured planning permission for a new ‘full offer’ Waitrose store in Chester as part of a hybrid planning application which also included outline planning permission for a hotel and offices.

The plans will deliver a high quality retail offer by regenerating the Boughton Retail Centre and contribute positively towards the City’s wider regeneration objectives as set out in Chester’s One City Plan.

Waitrose appointed HOW to provide planning advice for the proposed new 2,800 sq m (net) store which will be the mainstay of a new high quality mixed use development including new smaller retail units fronting Boughton Road, a new high quality area of public realm and pedestrian/cyclist bridge crossing over the Shropshire Union Canal.

Extensive pre-application discussions were undertaken with Cheshire West and Chester Council and a community consultation exercise demonstrated over 90% support for the mixed use proposals from stakeholders and the local community.

HOW has also worked with Waitrose at schemes in Northwich town centre and in South Shrewsbury where Waitrose food stores anchor mixed use developments.
