Following a successful application in Leicester, HOW Planning secured a second planning approval on behalf of CityBlock, a provider of high quality, purpose-built city centre student accommodation. An innovative multi-million pound redevelopment of a prime site in Lancaster city centre was given the green light by planners.
The new scheme provides unique landmark student accommodation combined with a number of retail units with plans to transform what was a largely empty retail and office development on Penny Street in the city centre.
Planners voted in favour of the scheme which comprises private, en suite, study bedrooms, shared communal spaces and individual townhouses centred around an attractive internal private courtyard.
HOW held comprehensive discussions with English Heritage, Places Matter and the Council’s Conservation Officer to gain full support for the innovative and exciting proposal, which aimed to ‘raise the bar’ in both quality and sustainability and deliver the best living experience for students in the city.
