Regeneration of Former C6 & Nestle Site

HOW Planning has submitted an outline planning application for a 26ha, residential led development in Castleford.

The application, submitted to Wakefield Metropolitan Borough Council, involves the regeneration of the former C6 works and Nestle site and is being developed by Castleford Riverside Regeneration Ltd. It has the potential to deliver a mix of uses including up to 1,400 new homes, extra care provision and a new local centre.

Plans also include the demolition of existing buildings and all necessary remediation works associated with the brownfield site, which sits within the Aire River Growth Corridor Housing Zone.

The application site has been acknowledged as a key site for the wider regeneration of Castleford Town Centre and neighbouring residential area and is ideally suited for the type of development being proposed.

The plans will make a significant contribution to Wakefield’s housing growth target and will deliver much needed regeneration.

The proposals for the scheme include:

• Up to 1,400 residential units (C3);
• Up to 300m2 retail uses (A1);
• Up to 650m2 professional and services uses (A2/A3/A4);
• Up to 1,400m2 extra care provision (C2);
• Up to 2,000m2 hotel (C1); and
• Up to 1,000m2 health/ crèche facilities (D1).
