New Food Store

St Helens’ Metropolitan Borough Council has approved plans for a new 2867 sq m foodstore in the town, following submission of an outline planning application by HOW Planning.

Acting on behalf of Preston based Maple Grove Developments, HOW provided planning advice for the edge of centre development, which is located between St Helens town centre and Fingerpost local centre.

The brownfield site, which sits between Atlas Street and Parr Street currently houses a number of old industrial units and car parking with vacant scrubland to the north. HOW worked with The Harris Partnership to create an attractive new retail opportunity which will provide a complimentary main food shop to the existing Fingerpost Local Centre in what is a predominantly residential area.

This new development will transform an underused site which currently brings no benefit to St Helens and the local community. The flexibility of an outline consent in such a prominent location has attracted interest from a number of retailers who will compliment and support the Fingerpost Local Centre whilst delivering a new gateway development for St Helens.
