Coronation Street Set

HOW won planning permission for the new ITV studio complex, including the relocation of the famous Coronation Street set, as part of the company’s move from its historic city centre base to a new site at Trafford Wharf.

Approved by Trafford Council, the plans paved the way for ITV to build an entirely new purpose-designed complex to include studio facilities, green rooms and ancillary accommodation on a 3.2 ha site adjacent to the Imperial War Museum North and accessed by a new bridge across the waterway to ITV’s existing facilities at MediaCityUK.

The move was a complex and considered process for Granada as it marked the first in its long history but the new studio facilities and brand new Coronation Street set have ensured a smooth transfer from the Quay Street campus in the city centre, which was no longer best suited to the company’s needs.
