Aldi Retail Scheme

Rochdale Borough Council’s Licencing and Regulatory Committee resolved to grant planning permission for a new retail scheme on the former Carter Brothers Site, close to Rochdale Town Centre, on behalf of Aldi Stores Limited. HOW Planning acted as planning consultant for the retailer, whilst The Harris Partnership acted as architect.

On completion the scheme will include a 1,781sqm Aldi foodstore and a 312sqm flexible-use retail unit, as well as car parking (113 spaces), dedicated servicing and customer vehicular accesses, and new areas of hard and soft landscaping. The scheme will create in the order of 50 new jobs and will also provide a developer contribution towards improvements to the town centre’s public realm.

Planning permission makes it possible for this important site to be redeveloped, after lying vacant for nearly a decade. The significant investment proposed by Aldi will not only enhance the visual appearance of the Town Centre’s western fringe but will also create local jobs and further enhance consumer choice within Rochdale’s food retail sector.
