Did HOW ‘Beat the Builder’?

On Saturday 6th June 2015 we took part in the Taylor Wimpey ‘Beat the Builder’ challenge in Coniston, Cumbria. Aside from the physical aspect of the challenge, this was a huge fundraising effort by 21 participating teams for two chosen North West charities, Derian House Children’s Hospice and the North West Air Ambulance.

The multi-activity event, involved a 13km hike up the Old Man of Coniston, a challenging 25km mountain bike ride around the Grizedale Forest and a 9.5km kayaking course on Coniston Water. We managed to successfully complete the challenge in just over 9 hours, despite battling 65mph winds on our descent of the Old Man of Coniston and seeing a little more of the Grizedale Forest than we had planned to after getting slightly lost on the mountain biking course!

Team HOW raised just over £1800, contributing to the total of approximately £30K, which will make a meaningful contribution to the fantastic services provided by the charities. Representatives from Derian House Children’s Hospice and the North West Air Ambulance attended the event and after hearing more about them it is clear that they are two very worthy causes.

Team HOW would like to thank the individuals and organisations who have donated to the two charities and have supported HOW’s participation in what was a truly great event. Your contribution is hugely appreciated.
